Tough task for Congress to pick up city ministers

Tough task for Congress to pick up city ministers

Hyderabad

May 24: With the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation fast approaching, the selection of MLAs from the city to the state cabinet has become a dicey issue.

The Congress fears that groupism ahead of the municipal elections will damage its prospects. The wannabe ministers from the city may be kept on “waiting list” till the GHMC polls are over.

Sources said that the Chief Minister had given enough indications that he wants two ministers from the state capital as the city has become bigger now. At present, Mr M. Mukesh Goud, is the only sitting minister from the state capital.

Others in the race for a cabinet berth are Mr Danam Nagender, Mr D. Sudheer Reddy, Ms Jayasudha and Mr Marri Shashidhar Reddy.

Mr Nagender, a close confidante of Dr Reddy, is also the president of the Greater Hyderabad unit of the Congress. He is the front runner for a ministerial berth from the city after Mr Mukesh Goud.

Mr Sudheer Reddy, is also in the good books of the Chief Minister. It was Dr Reddy, who nominated Mr Sudheer to the post of the chairperson of erstwhile Hyderabad Urban Development Authority, when he was a corporator in the MCH from Akbar Bagh.

Actor-turned-politician Jayasudha is being described as the “giant killer” for her victory over a mass leader like Talasani Srinivas Yadav from the TD.

When contacted, Mr Mukesh Goud said it was up to the Chief Minister to decide who should be in the cabinet.
